Sony offers a media converter that will allow you to convert analog recordings, such as 8mm or VHS to a digital video signal that is output to i.LINK interface. The DVMC-DA2 features a hardware based codec system (compression/decompression device) for optimum performance when converting analog video to digital, or vice versa. It has an interface for editing control. It connects to Sony VCRs, camcorders and edit controllers with a Control L jack, for synchronized easy editing.
By using Sony's new DVMC-DA2, any analog video or audio source can be stored as digital data in a computer or on Digital Video Cassette. The DVMC-DA2 allows analog sources such as 8mm, Hi8 video or VHS tapes to be converted into a digital signal for easy storage and manipulation. Using the Media Converter i.LINK interface, send the converted digital signal to a PC using a still image capture device such as Sony's DVBK-2000, the Sony VAIO Digital Studio Series Desktop Computers, or a Sony Digital Handycam camcorder. Once converted to digital, video editing, still image capture, and archiving will have the quality and ease of use that comes with digital applications.

Two buttons on top of the media converter allow you to easily select between analog in or digital in, depending on whether you are using an analog or digital video source. - Digital Audio Transfer
Easily convert analog audio signal to digital audio, 12 or 16 bit (PCM). Select from 12 or 16 bit audio mode on the DVMC-DA2 media converter box by pushing the "Analog In" key for 2 seconds until green colored light (12 bit mode) or red colored light (16 bit mode) appears. - Copyright Protection
